Outer Banks Jewelry Expo 2011
ROANOKE ISLAND-Roanoke IslandFestivalPark hosts its annual Outer Banks Jewelry Expo Saturday, November 12, in theArtGallery from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. More than a dozen local and regional designers will be offering gold, silver, gems, enamel, beach glass and precious metal clay pieces including rings, pins, earrings, necklaces, chokers, pendants and bracelets.
The line-up includes Kathryn and Ben Stewart from the Silver Bonsai Gallery in Manteo and Kathryn Osgood, the College of theAlbemarleeducator who heads up the Professional Jewelry Program at theDareCountycampus. Several of Osgood’s students and graduates will also be showcasing their creations to form an eclectic, creative and technically savvy mix.
Visitors also will enjoy the beach glass jewelry creations by Pem Bryant and fine art jewelry by Joy Hannan. Hannan is known locally for crafting delightful mermaid and fine art pieces incorporating an array of gems. She also operates KiDoodles, where she reproduces children’s drawings and paintings in metal, capturing their fresh, memorable and nostalgic qualities as wearable jewelry pieces.
Designer/goldsmith Sara DeSpain will be returning to show her work this year at the Expo. Known for taking inspiration from nature, DeSpain is a longtime Outer Banks jewelry crafter.
Denise Turner of Ultra Violet Gems is also a returning artist. She creates her own beads and pendants from Precious Metal Clay and has been handcrafting new ring and pendant designs of fine silver.
Other featured artists include local favorites, John Welch, Irene Schindler, Georgia Griffiths and Evelyn Tillett. Expect to see an eclectic array in a variety of price points. The jewelry will be offered for sale.
Also at Roanoke IslandFestivalPark, visit the attractions that highlight Roanoke Island’s history. Learn from historical interpreters in their Elizabethan era clothing at the Settlement Site and the Elizabeth II, the park’s 16th century representative ship. Visit our newest exhibit, theAmericanIndianTown. Imagine and learn at the interactiveAdventureMuseum, with exhibits that portray over four hundred years of Outer Banks history. See the movie The Legend of Two-Path. Admission is charged.
