Kitty Hawk Kites is hosting the 30th Annual Rogallo Kite Festival June 9th and 10th from 10:00am to 4:00pm. The festival will be held on the dunes of Jockey’s Ridge State Park, located at milepost 12.5. The event is free to the public and will be a great opportunity for visitors and residents of all ages to learn how to fly and make a variety of kites. The Rogallo Kite Festival includes two days of kite flying to honor Francis Rogallo, NASA scientist and inventor of the flexible wing. His inventions started the sport of hang gliding and his designs have transformed the usage of stunt and power kites that are flown today.

During the event, spectators and participants will enjoy a massive display of kites including a 100- foot octopus, an 80-foot scuba diver and a 50-foot fish, which will soar above Jockey’s Ridge. Kitty Hawk Kites will offer free stunt and power kite lessons on the dunes along with free kite making, face painting and a live performance by the Air Force Jazz Band is scheduled at 1:00pm Saturday afternoon at the Nags Head store just across the street at Jockey’s Ridge Crossing. Saturday evening an Oceanside night fly will take place at Ramada Inn located at milepost 9.5 in
Kill Devil Hills. Kitty Hawk Kites will display many kites with lights from 8pm to 11pm. Spectators can participate in this event with their own kites and glow sticks!
