From concerts to fundraisers, Koru Village’s Beach Klub has proven to be beneficial for the community in its opening year; the events coming in the month of August are a testimonial to the venue’s success.
Hatteras Island’s first oceanfront fashion show will be held August 9 at the Beach Klub 7-9pm. The Avon Fall Fashion Show will feature looks from Avon Surf Shop, Fisherman’s Daughter, Hatteras Island Boardsports and the Slough.
"The Slough will be showing targeting trends for early fall. Back to the grind, with a sprinkle of salt of course," said owner Jessica Gray Pickett.
Clothing and cash donations will be taken as admission to the fashion show. All donations will go to Outer Banks Hotline.
"Hatteras Island Boardsports is excited to be joining some other fantastic Avon businesses to showcase our take on fall fashion on the Outer Banks and specifically Hatteras Island," said co-owner of Hatteras Island Boardsports Drew Scalia.
On August 11, the Beach Klub will host a benefit concert for the Hatteras Island Genealogical and Preservation Society (HIGPS) featuring North Carolina bluegrass band, Nitrograss.
HIGPS President Dawn Taylor said, "We're excited that the community is coming together to present this event to honor our unique island culture and heritage. There are so many projects that our Society would like to see take place and this event is the catalyst to making them happen."
Nitrograss features two-time National Banjo Champion Charles Woods, brothers Micah and Caleb Hanks (guitar, vocals and mandolin) and bassist Dakota Waddell whose smooth rhythms lay the foundation for the band’s "newgrass" experience.
"We are looking forward to our East Coast tour. I was blown away by the Beach Klub: great sound, plenty of room to hang out with our friends and fans, a pool and oceanfront. What a beautiful place," said Waddell.
Musicians from across America are traveling to Hatteras to play at the Beach Klub’s PapaWack Theatre, North Carolina’s first oceanfront theatre, some are even returning for a second summer show.
East Coast beach music legends, The Embers will return to Avon August 23 after a sellout show July 26.
"The summer night was warm and the music was on fire with live beach music by The Embers. All the hard work is worth it to hear both locals and visitors say, ‘The Beach Klub is the best thing to happen to Hatteras Island in 20 years,’" said owner Joe Thompson.
The Beach Klub will host another Outer Banks Hotline event Sunday, August 26 at 4pm. Survivors of domestic violence will share their stories, raise awareness of the issue and pay tribute to Lynn Jackenheimer.
