    The Currituck County School System serves approximately 3900 students in ten schools. This includes six elementary schools, two middle schools, an Early College High School and a traditional comprehensive high school. Currituck County Schools is led by a five member Board of Education.

    The Dare County School System serves approximately 5,000 students in 11 schools. This includes 5 elementary schools, 2  middle schools, one secondary school, two high schools, and one alternative school. Dare County Schools is led by a 7 member Board of Education. Approximately 40 percent of our local teachers hold graduate degrees, and 17 percent hold National Board Certification.

    Each of  Dare County's eleven schools met or exceeded the state’s expectations for academic growth in a single school year for 2009-2010.

    Ocracoke School is the smallest public school in the state.  The school presented has an enrollment of 119 students combined in K-12.  Ocracoke School is served by a total of 20 teachers, 3 instructional assistances, a SIMS Coordinator, a guidance counselor, a maintenance worker, a secretary, and a principal.  Due to the small size, the only sport that the high school can play is basketball.  The teams are called the Ocracoke Dolphins and the school colors are black and gold.
