While the Outer Banks is known as the "Blue Marlin Capitol of the World, anglers enjoy a variety of fishing options on North Carolinas Outer Banks: surf and pier fishing, freshwater, fly and sound fishing, inshore and offshore charter fishing.

North Carolina’s Coastal Recreational Fishing License is effective January 1, 2007. This license can be purchased on a 10-day, annual or lifetime basis, or combined with a variety of licenses issued by the Wildlife Resources Commission. The N.C. Division of Marine Fisheries will administer the new saltwater fishing license. The North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries offers an on-line recreational coastal waters guide for sportfishermen including size and catch regulationsfish finder, catches by area, statewide fishing tournaments, and more.
