While there is currently no scheduled air service directly to the Outer Banks, there are charter flights available, Dare & Currituck County Airports, and landing strips in the area. Norfolk International Airport (NIA) is the closest airport serving northeastern North Carolina and the Outer Banks. Norfolk International Airport is located 60 miles from Kitty Hawk, N.C.

With more than three million passengers per year, NIA offers nearly 200 arrivals and departures daily to primary cities throughout the United States and the world. Eleven air carriers serve NIA - - American, American Eagle, Continental, Continental Express, Delta, Delta Connection, Northwest, Southwest, United Express, US Airways and US Airways Express.
