STUCK HERE ON PURPOSE EXHIBIT
Dare County Arts Council
300 Queen Elizabeth Ave
Manteo, NC 27954
For decades, the Outer Banks has been a dynamic hotbed of creative genius. Painters who depict watery shores in running color. Glassblowers pulling sculpture from glowing fires. Photographers who can capture the natural chaos of a raging storm — or carefully stage a portrait that yields the most powerful emotions. Since Issue 0.1, Milepost has tapped the full range of local talents — and their various muses — to fully reflect the vibrancy of local life.
In March, “Stuck Here On Purpose” will assemble the most noteworthy examples from 35 issues, including original renditions of commissioned art-pieces, large-scale reproductions of memorable photographs, and unseen images from a host of complex — and occasionally hilarious — photoshoots. Add a few fresh works by the profiled artists, plus an array of random, oddball objects and inside jokes, this month-long exhibit puts you inside the process that makes the mag — and salutes the people and the place that inspire every page.
Join us for an opening reception on Friday, March 6 from 6pm - 8pm. There will be light hors d'oeuvres and libations, and guests will have the opportunity to meet some of the artists who have contributed to Outer Banks Milepost over the years. The reception is free and open to the public.
The show will be on display March 6-28, 2020.
Outer Banks Milepost is a free, quarterly publication focused on local issues, music, arts, culture politics, and the occasional smart-ass joke. Launched in 2011, the magazine maintains a single goal: to celebrate the diverse community of diehard residents, crazy enough to commit to living on such an ever-changing, often-challenging stretch of sand. Fortunately, such conditions produce a non-stop a supply of compelling subjects, and a top-notch arsenal of creative types — writers, photographers, artists, and others — who stand ready to capture and convey the mix of natural wonder and sheer camaraderie that keeps us all “stuck here on purpose.”
