July 2018 Business of the Month: The Blue Point
We congratulate Tim Power and Sam McGann of The Blue Point! Congratulations The Blue Point for being selected as our July 2018 Business of the Month Winner. The Business of the Month is sponsored by BB&T and our gift sponsor, Duck Donuts and celebrates small businesses, entrepreneurs and home-based businesses in the Outer Banks.
Celebrating 29 years, John Power and Sam McGann started a small ‘diner like style” restaurant consisting of 50 seats and a 6-seat oyster bar, known as The Blue Point. Today, The Blue Point contains twice the seating and is a well-known restaurant in the Outer Banks.
The Blue Point’s food philosophy has remained the same – keep our dishes simple, consistent and seasonal. Their impression has been clearly marked for the quality and presentation of a balanced dish that makes sense in both texture and flavor.
Consistently having had strong roots in Southern cooking. They now employ the techniques of brining, curing, pickling and smoking, as well as, sausage making for pork, seafood and vegetables. Their Tidewater, Virginia upbringing provided John and Sam a strong foundation in Southern traditions. They carry those values here at their sound front location in Duck, where they remain the backbone of both their service and their food.
As a business of the month, The Blue Point will also be considered for the annual ESBY, Entrepreneur & Small Business of the Year Awards.
