The Outer Banks Chamber Small Business of the Month Award recognizes exceptional small businesses in Currituck, Dare and Hyde Counties. The monthly award is given to a Chamber member business that excels in the areas of Business Excellence and Vision, Community Engagement and Entrepreneurial Spirit.


The award will be presented monthly at the winner's location (or Chamber office if the business has no storefront location).

In addition, the winning business will be featured with a photo and news article on the Chamber website as well as mentions through the Chamber's social media channels. All Business of the Month winners will also be considered for the Outer Banks Entrepreneur and Small Business of the Year (ESBY) Awards which are presented annually in June.

May 2017 Business of the Month: Jolly Roger Restaurant

The Outer Banks Chamber of Commerce is pleased to congratulate Jolly Roger Restaurant, owned by Ms. Carol Ann Angelos, as the May 2017 Outer Banks Business of the Month.

Being the oldest running Italian restaurant on the Outer Banks, the Jolly Roger Restaurant is open 365 days, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. Along with being a full service restaurant and bar lounge, the Jolly Roger has nightly karaoke and dancing. The mission for the Jolly Roger is to be open and available to all who wish for a hearty, delicious meal. Our locals are family and appreciate seasonal visitors by focusing to always provide consistency, distinctive dishes and a professional, friendly service. Ms. Carol Ann’s passion goes beyond the Jolly Roger. Her willingness to be a great contributor and role model to our community clearly reflects her love and appreciation for the Outer Banks. The list of local organizations Jolly Roger Restaurant has been involved with goes on and on; Toys for Tots, Beach Food Pantry, Outer Banks SPCA, Ruthie’s Kitchen, Room at the Inn, First Flight High School are just to name a few.

April 2017 Business of the Month: Outer Banks Distilling

On their two year anniversary of selling their first bottled rum on North Carolina's Outer Banks, Outer Banks Chamber of Commerce Chair-Elect Bob Peele recognized Outer Banks Distilling as the April 2017 Business of the Month. The award recognizes entrepreneurial spirit and community involvement. Outer Banks Distilling supports a number of community events such as the annual Outer Banks Seafood Festival, Taste of the Beach, and other non-profit fundraisers. "We recognize and appreciate the partnership," said Peele. "Thank you for all you do for the Outer Banks." Monthly Business Winners are automatically entered into the Chamber's annual Entrepreneur and Small Business of the Year Awards. March 2017 Business of the Month: TRIO Outer Banks

TRIO Beer Wine Cheese has been named the March 2017 Outer Banks Business of the Month by the Outer Banks Chamber of Commerce. TRIO supports over 16 non-profits in the area and serves as host for the annual Surfing for Autism fundraiser. Kenny Hyman graduated University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Business, worked as an equities analyst in Tokyo for Barclays Securities, started and ran several restaurant and retail businesses before moving to the Outer Banks in 2003. He and his wife Melissa first started Native Vine, featuring North Carolina wines. In 2011, he partnered with John and Jennifer Minnich to open TRIO.

TRiO in 2016, donated to approximately 60 different fundraisers supporting Outer Banks charities totaling more than $18,000 along with hosting Surfing for Autism fundraiser. Trio is always willing to support any and all local charities and groups in need.

 

February 2017 Business of the Month:  BRS Electrical Service

The Outer Banks Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce BRS Electrical Service is the recipient of the Outer Banks Chamber Business of the Month for February 2017. The award was presented March 7, 2017 at the Chamber office in Kill Devil Hills. 

"Brad Smith and his staff are professional, thorough and never disappoint., said Pat Broom, Phoenix Restoration.  "Being a local electrical company, they set the standard for contractors on the Outer Banks, elping us make sure we are doing the best for our customers.  They communicate frequently and take the time to point out other issues that appear on the job site."

As Business of the Month, BRS Electrical Service becomes a contender for a category in our prestigious ESBY Awards (Entrepreneur and Small Business of the Year) on June 6th.

The Outer Banks Chamber of Commerce recognized Carolina Designs Realty as the January Business of the Month.  The award is co-sponsored by College of the Albemarle’s Small Business Center and was presented 9:00 a.m. Monday, February 6, 2017 at the Carolina Designs Realty office in Duck.


Since 1988, Carolina Designs Realty has represented quality Outer Banks vacation homes for sale and vacation rental, in the towns of Corolla, Duck, Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills and Nags Head. They are a family owned and operated business that has established a solid reputation throughout our years in operation.

The core mission of Carolina company is to provide excellent sales, property management, maintenance, and housekeeping services to homeowners, while continuously enhancing the  guest’s vacation experience, holding customer service and care as the highest priorities. 

Carolina Designs is supportive of area organizations, community events and projects. The Outer Banks Chamber of Commerce recognized A&A Atlantic of Manteo as December Business of the Month.  The award is co-sponsored by College of the Albemarle’s Small Business Center and was presented 3:00 p.m., Friday, January 6, 2017 at the Chamber office in Kill Devil Hills.

“This is a new program for the Outer Banks Chamber of Commerce,” said Chamber President & CEO at the ceremony.  “Our community is rich with entrepreneurs, home-based businesses and small businesses that comprise a significant part of our local economy. To celebrate those individuals and businesses we have established the Business of the month program.”

She added that each month applications received will be reviewed and winner chosen, the panel of judges includes chamber executives and business leaders from across the country.  The November Business of the Month was Beach Ready Auto.

A&A Atlantic is owned by Heath and Erica Burkhart. A&A Atlantic is a provider of portable toilets and other sanitation rentals, they have served the Outer Banks since 1986. Their goal is to offer customers reasonable pricing, reliable and timely service, and dependability.

In addition to being a member of the Chamber of Commerce, A&A Atlantic is a sponsor or partner in many events including the Outer Banks Seafood Festival, Outer Banks Sporting Events, Outer Banks Pridefest, Outer Banks Bluegrass Festival, Lions Club VIP Fishing Tournament, Mustang Music Festival and many more.

November 2016 Business of the Month: Beach Ready Auto of Point Harbor 

 

Beach Ready Auto has been named the November Outer Banks Business of the Month by the Outer Banks Chamber of Commerce. The award was presented Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at the Beach Ready Auto location in Point Harbor.

Beach Ready Auto is ;a full-service preventive maintenance and auto repair center performing car, suv and truck repairs. In the community, they support the March of Dimes, food pantry, Toys for tots, cub scouts, military, veterans, fire/EMS and police personnel, local schools, and more.

The Outer Banks Business of the Month is a new recognition program sponsored by the Outer Banks Chamber of Commerce and College of the Albemarle's Small Business Center.
