The Town of Kitty Hawk is looking for a skilled and service-oriented Building Inspector & Code Enforcement Officer to join our Planning and Inspections team.

What You’ll Do
This position plays an important role in protecting the safety, quality, and character of Kitty Hawk. Responsibilities include:
- Inspecting residential, commercial, and industrial construction for compliance with the North Carolina State Building Code
- Reviewing plans, issuing permits, and conducting inspections
- Serving as the Town’s Code Enforcement Officer and investigating zoning and Town Code complaints
- Working with property owners, contractors, architects, engineers, and residents to resolve compliance issues
- Administering the Town’s erosion and sedimentation control program
- Serving as a CAMA Local Permit Officer
- Conducting post-disaster damage assessments
- Supporting a collaborative, professional, and service-focused Town team
What We’re Looking For
Level III certification is preferred, but candidates with Level II certification and the experience and ability to achieve Level III certification within three years will be considered.
Successful candidates will have experience in building construction and/or inspection, knowledge of North Carolina Building Codes, strong communication skills, and the ability to interpret plans, investigate complaints, document findings, and work effectively with the public and professionals.
Required certifications and qualifications include:
- Valid North Carolina driver’s license
- Level III certification, or the ability to obtain required Level III certifications within three years
- Ability to obtain Certified Floodplain Manager designation within five years
- Ability to obtain CAMA Local Permitting Officer certification within two years

This is a full-time position based at Town Hall, with a regular Monday–Friday schedule of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The hiring range is commensurate with experience and certification level.
