On December 17, 1903, Orville and Wilbur Wright made the first powered, controlled flight on the sands of Kill Devil Hills. Each year the community gathers at the Wright Brothers National Memorial to mark the anniversary with a morning ceremony, a wreath laying at the First Flight boulder and a flyover (weather permitting). Admission to the park is free for the day.

Presented by the National Park Service with the First Flight Society and Outer Banks Forever. Ceremony times are set by the Park Service each year; check nps.gov/wrbr for the schedule.
